NM Inmate Flown To El Paso Hospital With Multiple Stab Wounds

A convicted murderer who is being held at the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility in Las Cruces had to be flown to an El Paso hospital after being stabbed several times.

Prison officials say 32-year-old Jeremiah Ordonez, who was convicted of and sentenced for second degree murder, was stabbed multiple times by at least one other inmate in the Level III recreational yard. He is in stable condition.

The New Mexico State Police’s Security Threat Intelligence Unit is looking into the attack, and the prison will remain on lockdown until they determine the prison is safe.

A motive motive for the stabbing has not been determined, though the attack comes a day after a major drug bust at the facility. Investigators are trying to determine whether or not drug seizure and stabbing might be related.
