Dave Chappelle Performance At Plaza Theatre Canceled

Comedian Dave Chappelle, best known for the Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show” and the movie “Half Baked” will no longer perform Thursday at the Plaza Theatre.

According to the Plaza Theatre, Dave Chappelle’s comedy tour was unable to commit to the El Paso tour stop and notified venue officials this morning.

Chappelle has performed in several Texas cities, but has given venues only hours notice, creating buzz and enthusiasm for ticket buyers. His performance at the Plaza Theatre for Thursday night was barely confirmed Tuesday, but has been officially canceled.

Chappelle last performed a couple of shows in El Paso in 2004 at The Comic Strip. An onsale date for tickets has not been solidified but tickets are expected to cost $52 and could go on sale as early as this afternoon.

Chappelle has performed stand-up comedy sporadically ever since he quit his show in 2004. His popular skits on his TV show included impersonations of Prince, Rick James and Lil Jon.
