Fire forces elderly man out of his home
A pan of oil is being blamed for a house fire which forced an elderly man out of his home early Friday morning.
The incident happened just after midnight on the 7500 block of Parral in south El Paso, near the EPCC Valle Verde campus. Emergency crews say the man left a cooking pan with oil on the stove, and had fallen asleep when the fire ignited.
Emergency crews say the man was awakened by the fire, and managed to escape the house. No injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to the kitchen and the attic. Total damages are estimated at $50,000.
