EPISD, YISD react to rumored threats of violence

The deadly massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut is spawning outrage, sadness and fear.

And it’s also inspiring some to issue threats of similar acts of violence.

ABC-7 confirmed earlier this week that two Coronado High School students were arrested for making violent threats.

The El Paso Independent School District said it is taking the rumors seriously by investigating all threats, which at this point, are unfounded.

In a statement sent to ABC-7, EPISD stated, “The district will not tolerate this type of behavior. Any student caught making any type of threat that undermines student safety will be disciplined according to the student code of conduct and face criminal charges.”

District officials are asking anyone to report threats to Police Services at 230-2525.

Meanwhile, Ysleta ISD Superintendent Michael Zolkoski said YISD has implemented enhanced security measures on all campuses, including placing all schools on modified lockdown, holding PE and recess indoors, and enforcing the rule that all visitors sign in.

YISD is releasing students early on Friday. Elementary is out at 11:30 a.m., high school students is at 11:45 a.m., and middle schools at 12:30 p.m.
