Garcia arraigned in public corruption case
A man accused of bribing a county judge to obtain a federally funded contract worth hundreds of thousands of dollars is expected in federal court Monday.
Ruben Sonny Garcia is charged with deprivation of honest services, mail fraud and conspiracy. He was arrested in December 2011 as part of the FBI’s public corruption investigation.
Garcia’s arraignment is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday in Judge Frank Montalvo’s courtroom in the federal courthouse downtown.
Garcia received a contract from El Paso County in 2005 for his company LKG Enterprises Inc. LKG was contracted to perform evaluations of children receiving care under the Border Children’s Mental Health Collaborative, a federally funded program to help children with mental health issues. LKG received $675,000 for services county investigators later said were not performed.
