Update: El Paso Police ID victim in deadly motorcycle crash
Update Oct. 8, 2012: : El Psso Police have identified the motorcyclist who died early Sunday morning as 29-year-old Carlos Sanchez of the 1000 block of Los Moros in El Paso.
El Paso Police said the investigation revealed that Sanchez was riding a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle at a high rate of speed on I-10 West near Asarco when he attempted to pass a Chevrolet Cobalt by driving onto the left shoulder of the freeway.
El Paso Police said Sanchez was wearing a helmet and have identified speed as a contributing factor. It is unknown at this time if alcohol is a contributing factor.

This the 41st traffic fatality of 2012 compared to 48 at during this same time period in 2011.
This is the 7th motorcycle fatality of 2012 compared to 3 during this same time period in 2011.

Officers responded to the scene just before 3:30 Sunday morning to the westbound lanes ofInterstate 10 between Schuster and Executive Center, prompting an immediate closure.
Theunidentified victim was taken to University Medical Center where helaterdied.
Police say there were several reports that the motorcyclist was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed, but that has not been confirmed by officials.
“The motorcyclist may have clipped one vehicle, and then collided with the center guard rail,” said Darrel Petry, spokesman for the El Paso Police Department.
Special Traffic Investigators were called out to the scene.
The westbound lanes were opened just before 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
The investigation continues.
