Bama beats Notre Dame to Win BCS Title; El Paso Notre Dame fans sad

Coming into the BCS Championship game, Notre Dame was an overwhelming underdog.

However, there were still plenty of optimistic Irish fans in the El Paso-Juarez-Las Cruces area who figured their team would have a pretty good shot in the national title game.

Unfortunately for the 500-plus Notre Dame alumni from the El Paso-area, Notre Dame proved the “experts” were very wrong – wrong on the point spread.

The Fighting Irish came into the game a 9 1/2 point underdog. In the end, Notre Dame proved to be the outmatched team that lost by a whopping 28 points. Final score: 42-14.

In a matchup of programs tied for the most AP national championships with eight, Alabama rolled over Notre Dame. AJ McCarron threw four touchdown passes and Eddie Lacy ran for 140 yards and scored two touchdowns.

KVIA’s coverage also included ABC-7’s Asher Wildman reporting from Fort Bliss at the Shamrock Bar with a pro-Notre Dame crowd.

Wildman lived up to his creative, unique, “loco” reputation by dressing up as a leprechaun as the crowd cheered him on.

However, by the end of the first quarter, most of the die-hards had already realized the “luck of the Irish” had run out. Tough loss for the formerly, undefeated and No. 1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Congratulations to the Alabama Crimson Tide for its third BCS title in four years.
