Radio show host joins race for El Paso mayor

A third candidate, Hector Lopez, has entered the race to become El Paso’s next mayor.

According to the Municipal Clerk’s website, Lopez officially entered the race Tuesday afternoon. According to an online profile, Lopez is an El Paso native with work experience in the city’s economic development department as well as being a teacher at Cathedral High School. Lopez graduated from Cathedral in 1998, and has degrees from Georgetown and Villanova Universities. He is also the host of two talk shows on local AM radio: “Fronteras: A Changing America” and “The Next Big Step”

According to the document filed with the city clerk, Belen Robles is the campaign treasurer for Lopez. Lopez will face City Representative Steve Ortega and businessman Robert Cormell in the mayoral race.

The deadline to file to run for mayor is March 1st.
