Update: Fort Bliss soldier killed in Saturday night car wreck identified
Feb. 11, 2013 Update: El Paso Police have identified the man killed in a car wreck on Saturday as 29-year-old James Anthony Beck of Valdosta, Georgia. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, according to post officials. Valdosta was a passenger in the vehicle.
Feb. 9, 2013 Article: Fort Bliss spokesman Maj. Joe Buccino confirmed the man killed in a Saturday night car crash was a Fort Bliss solider.
According to police spokesman Darrel Petry, around 10:30 p.m. a Ford F-150 was headed west on I-10, when the driver tried to exit on the Paisano off-ramp, the F-150 hit the driver’s side of a Ford Ranger. Investigators said the the impact caused the F-150 to spin and collide with a barricade. Initial reports show the F-150 landed on its side and the male passenger was partially ejected. The man died at the scene.
Buccino said the man who was killed was a first-term soldier on post and the driver, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, is also a soldier.
According to police, the deceased passenger was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
