Murder investigation underway, suspect in custody

One person is dead and another is in custody following a murder early Saturday morning, police said.

El Paso police officer Javier Sambrano told ABC-7 that one person was killed overnight.

Police said the murder occurred on the 7900 block of Monterrey just before 3 a.m.

According to Sambrano, the victim was a 45-year-old mission valley female. The suspect is a 49-year-old mission valley man, police said. He has been detained.

Monterrey Street in east El Paso was blocked off near Bel Air High School Saturday morning.

Police responded to “unknown problem” call, where the woman was discovered. She was dead upon arrival. The male suspect was found at the scene, police said.
