LCPD: Toddler dies after family member runs him over

A spokesman for the Las Cruces Police Department says a toddler died Tuesday night after a family member accidentally ran him over. It happened on the 200 block of Three Crosses Avenue.

According to police, the family was with the 1 1/2-year-old boy in the yard. At some point a family member got in his or her truck to leave, and the toddler ran in front of the truck without the family member realizing it. Police say the family member ran over the toddler.

The child was unresponsive at the scene. He was taken to Mountain View Medical Center where he was pronounced dead around 9 p.m.

At this point, no charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
