1 woman seriously injured in traffic collision; 2 others also taken to hospital for injuries

One woman has serious, life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision early Thursday morning in the Upper Valley.

At about 3:04 a.m., a red VW Jetta, traveling northbound on Doniphan, allegedly ran into the rear of a black Mazda 3, forcing it off the roadway, and causing it to collide with a utility pole.

Police officials say Desiree Skaf, who was driving the VW Jetta failed to stop at the scene, and continued to travel north on Doniphan, and was located on Montoya where the vehicle was found disabled.

The driver of the Mazda, 27-year old Iris Bustamante was transported to Las Palmas Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries. The front seat passenger in the Mazda, 25-year old Janet Balderama was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of serious life threatening injuries.

Skaf, 21, of the 600 block of Lakeway, was transported to Las Palmas for treatment of her injuries.
