El Paso Bishop Mark Seitz returns from Brazil, World Youth Day; starts blog

After nearly 10 hours of air travel from Brazil, El Paso Catholic Bishop Mark Seitz and 15 El Paso youths were finally back in El Paso after attending World Youth Day.

Seitz said while seeing Pope Francis speak in Brazil was a high point, he said it wasn’t the whole experience. There also were teachings everyday by bishops and a lot of music, and interaction between groups from all over the world.

“One of the greatest blessings of World Youth Day is for the youth, who very often may feel isolated … if they really take their faith seriously to see that they’re not alone, that there are a lot of people who are very excited about their faith, about being Christian, about being Catholic. When all is said and done, that may be the greatest benefit of all (from World Youth Day).”

Seitz, who started a Twitter account a few weeks ago, has now started a blog, as well. The first blog post was about World Youth Day.

“I’ve always enjoyed writing and I want to use every means that I can find to communicate with people,” Seitz said. “That’s one of the biggest jobs of a bishop.”

Seitz said he will use the blog, much like he uses Twitter, to give a Christian perspective on events of the day.
