El Paso Triple-A team opening 2014 on the road before expected April 11 home debut

The pieces are coming together with the El Paso Triple-A team.

First the seating map and season ticket prices were released earlier this week and now El Pasoans know the team will begin the 2014 season on the road with an eight-game trip, according to a Pacific Coast League official with knowledge of the schedule.

El Paso, which does not have a nickname at this point, is expected to open its home season on April 11. The team’s full schedule expected to be released on Monday.

Frank Garcia went Downtown Friday to take a look at how ballpark construction is progressing.

“I’m curious, kind of nosy,” he said. “I wanted to see what my city is going to do.”

The Dodgers Triple-A affiliate, Albuquerque, will be playing in
El Paso several times because they will be in the same division.

While El Paso has plenty of Dodger fans, Garcia doesn’t count himself among them.

“I’m not a Dodgers fan … there’s a bunch of ’em in El Paso, though. I know there are and they’re going to stone me when I get out of here,” he said with a laugh.
