The Cure to play UTEP’s Don Haskins Center on Oct. 10, tickets on sale Friday

After months of rumors it’s finally official: The Cure will perform at the Don Haskins Center on Oct. 10.

Tickets go on sale on Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster and will cost $30, $40, $50, $60, and $70 – not including service charges.

Because The Cure only had two concert dates in October – both at Austin City Limits Festival – it was only natural that El Pasoans were hoping an El Paso date would be added and the rumor mill got going in late Spring.

Efforts were made at that time to book a show booked but they fell through.

Jorge Vasquez, executive director of special events at UTEP, in June put the possibility of a Cure concert at his venue in the “hoping for” category.

“I feel like it’s Christmas and Santa Claus is bringing me everything on my wishlist,” Vasquez said Monday morning.

His Fall lineup of events has shaped up nicely with the end of summer Freestyle Jam this week, Luis Miguel in September, The Cure in October, Nine Inch Nails in November and The Nutcracker in December. He said The Nutcracker is growing so much that it might have to be moved to a larger venue soon.

While the Fall is set, Vasquez is already working on 2014. He said there are a couple of shows he’s working on for February that he expects to be able to announce soon that will “take El Paso by surprise.”

Vasquez couldn’t say what he’s working on but said he’d like to make UTEP and the Don Haskins center known for an eclectic mix of genres, from comedy to pop, to rock, and just about everything.
