City of El Paso releases documents, emails that were requested months ago

The City of El Paso on Monday released nearly 200 pages of documents and emails from City officials.

Some of the emails are related to the negotiations in the run-up to the approval of construction of a new ballpark at the site of the old City Hall.

KVIA and other parties requested the emails months ago. The attorney general said the emails are public record.

A recently passed law defines public records to include any written communication on any device so long as it’s about public business.

In accordance with the motion passed on August 20, 2013, the City Attorney is releasing additional documents that include:

• The fifteen previously undisclosed pages of information accessible to the City and responsive to Aleshire’s September 5, 2012 and October 5, 2012 requests;
• The 168 previously undisclosed pages of information accessible to the City and responsive to Rojas’ February 7, 2013 request;

City Manager Joyce Wilson this week will be sending a letter to current and former City Council members requesting voluntary submittal of any personal emails responsive to the seven requests related to the City’s lawsuit with the Texas Attorney General.
