UPDATE: Three lanes now open on I-10 after train derails, crashed into freeway pillar
Three lanes on westbound I-10 are now open.
Union Pacific said seven trains went of the tracks at 8:30 p.m. Friday night. One of the train car hit a concrete support column of the Cotton street overpass forcing some of I-10 to be closed.
Crews on scene told ABC-7 they will be putting up steel beams to support the freeway, then cutting the jammed rail car out.
During times of high traffic, people are being encouraged to take alternative routes. Tx-Dot suggests taking U.S. 54 to Transmountain; or from the east, take South Loop 375 to Border Highway. Drivers can also get off at the Cotton exit and take Missouri.
