Trailer for Mine that Bird film is released; movie to be released in March

“50 to 1,” the film based on the improbable 2009 Kentucky Derby win by Mine that Bird, will be released in New Mexico on March 21.

A wide release date has not been announced.

Mine That Bird is owned by New Mexicans Mark Allen and Dr. Leonard Blach and was trained on their ranches in Roswell, New Mexico. The horse raced at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

In Dec. 2012, Wilson made a presentation at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino about the film. He said that Hollywood studios passed on the project, fearing the public would not be interested in another horse-racing movie.

Undeterred, Wilson personally found investors and put his own money into the $8 million production. Shooting lasted 38 days in New Mexico and nine days at famed Churchill Downs in Louisville, home of the Kentucky Derby.

Wilson said the movie “does not look like a cheap film.”

Hollywood actors Skeet Ulrich, William Davane and Christian Kane star along with Mine That Bird jockey Calvin Borrell, who plays himself in the movie.
