2013 story: El Paso Police arrest soldier after he allegedly tries to take gun from officer
Davalous Brown, 19, of Fort Bliss was arrested early Thursday morning after he allegedly attempted to take an El Paso Police officer’s gun during a traffic stop and fled the scene.
This is not the first time Brown has been in trouble with the law. (Editor’s Note: See previous arrest at bottom of article).
The incident occurred at 11:21 a.m. Thursday in Northeast El Paso when an officer stopped Brown on the 8800 block of Roberts for allegedly not wearing a seat belt.
According to police, the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and asked Brown about it. Brown then handed the officer a baggy containing marijuana which had been concealed inside of the glove compartment of the vehicle as well as a rolled marijuana cigarette, according to marijuana.
As the officer continued the investigation with Brown seated inside the Malibu and the officer standing next to Brown’s vehicle. According to police, the officer felt Brown tug on his holstered firearm in an attempt to take the pistol away from the officer.
The officer was able to maintain control of the pistol and drew the pistol demanding Brown to shut off his vehicle. Brown allegedly refused to comply with the instructions and drove off. The officer provided other responding officers of the direction in which Brown had fled.
A sergeant observed Brown and his vehicle in the 9000 block of Herbert at which time Brown then fled running towards Hondo Pass, according to police. A foot chase ensued and Brown was captured in the 4700 block of Hondo Pass. The weight of the marijuana seized was 0.30 grams.
Brown was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on the following charges:

Brown was previously arrested on Sept. 17, 2012 for aggravated robbery – a first degree felony – and evading arrest detention – a Class A Misdemeanor. Police said in September that Brown and another soldier, Tiedrick James, drove up to a 38-year-old man in Northeast El Paso and allegedly robbed him at gunpoint. Police then spotted their car a little later which led to a car chase that turned into a foot chase before the they were arrested.
