Chihuahuas win 6th in a row

Keyvius Sampson pitched seven innings and allowed only one run in the El Paso Chihuahuas 6-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Wednesday afternoon at Chukchansi Park. The Chihuahuas have won six games in a row and seven of their last 11.

The Chihuahuas scored one run each in their first three innings on solo home runs from Jonathan Galvez and Jeff Francoeur and a sacrifice fly by Cody Decker. The Grizzlies cut the Chihuahuas’ lead to one and loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but Bobby LaFromboise got Tyler Colvin to ground into a double play, ending the threat.

El Paso added three runs in the top of the ninth before Branch Kloess pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth to seal the win.

Jonathan Galvez went 2-for-2 with an RBI in his second game with El Paso. Rocky Gale went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in his first game back from the disabled list. San Diego outfielder Carlos Quentin went 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter in the first game of his Major League injury rehab assignment.
