Albuquerque beats Chihuahuas, 8-4

El Paso and Albuquerque combined to hit seven home runs in Saturday’s 8-4 Isotopes win over the Chihuahuas. Alex Castellanos, Jonathan Galvez and Jeff Francoeur belted the El Paso homers, all solo shots.

Albuquerque pounced on Chihuahuas starter Matt Wisler, scoring three times in the first inning on back-to-back home runs by Joc Peterson and Clint Robinson. Wisler allowed five earned runs on eight hits in his second Triple-A start Saturday. The home runs by Castellanos and Galvez got the Chihuahuas within one in the third inning, but that was as close as El Paso got, because one inning later Albuquerque batted around, scoring three times on four hits and two Chihuahuas errors. After making just two errors in the four-game series in Fresno, the Chihuahuas committed four errors Saturday.

Galvez, Francoeur and Tommy Medica each had three hits for El Paso in the loss. Branch Kloess, Jorge Reyes, Blaine Boyer and Chris Rearick all had scoreless outings out of the El Paso bullpen. The Chihuahuas have now lost all five games against the Isotopes this season.

Saturday’s crowd of 9,859 was the largest of the season at Southwest University Park. The Chihuahuas have sold out eight of the nine home games in 2014.
