First Alert: Cold front leaves behind cool May day
The StormTRACK Weather team issued a First Alert for high winds, hazy skies, and cool temperatures Tuesday morning.
A strong cold front backed into the region this morning, the second cold front in as many days.
Today’s cold front brought high winds, and kicked up dust. Winds gusted to 50 mph along west mountain slopes through the morning. The winds moved in from the northeast, and weakened into the early afternoon. Through the afternoon expect gusts in the low to mid 30s, with highest winds still in West El Paso.
The cold front also brought extremely cool air for May. Today the forecast high in El Paso is only 68 degrees and 68 degrees in Las Cruces. Tonight temperatures will drop to the low to mid 40s, with wind chills in the upper 30s possible.
The well below average temperatures will linger Wednesday and Thursday as the area attempts to warm up. Winds will be lighter by late today and into Wednesday with just breezy conditions Wednesday.
