Eveland Strikes Out 10 in Las Vegas Win

The Las Vegas 51s won their third straight game at Southwest University Park and sixth straight game overall Saturday, defeating the El Paso Chihuahuas, 6-4. Las Vegas starter Dana Eveland pitched six innings and struck out 10 Chihuahuas in the win.

Both sides made two errors in the early innings, leading to at least one unearned run per team. The score was 5-4 Las Vegas at the end of three innings before the offenses settled down, holding the 5-4 score until Allan Dykstra’s eighth inning RBI single. Las Vegas outfielder Cesar Puello went 2-for-3 while reaching two other times on hit by pitches. Former Padres farmhand Brandon Allen had two hits, including a home run off the facing of The Big Dog House building in right field.

Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 with a double in the loss for El Paso. Francoeur has 18 hits in his last 13 games. Jorge Reyes and Blaine Boyer pitched scoreless outings for El Paso. It was the seventh straight appearance without an earned run allowed for Reyes.

Saturday’s sellout was the 13 th in 15 home games at Southwest University Park.
