Chihuahuas win fourth straight, 5-4
The El Paso Chihuahuas won their fourth straight game Sunday, beating the Tacoma Rainiers 5-4 at Southwest University Park. El Paso has now won seven of its last nine games. Matt Wisler pitched six innings and allowed just one run. In his last 13 innings of work, Wisler has surrendered just one earned run.
The Chihuahuas scored three times in the first inning on an RBI single by Jake Goebbert and a two-run triple by Cody Decker. El Paso went ahead 5-1 during a two-run seventh inning after a bases-loaded, pinch-hit single by Jonathan Galvez and an RBI fielder’s choice by Jeff Francoeur. The extra runs proved valuable when Tacoma scored three times in the top of the eighth. The Rainiers had Gabriel Noriega at first base with two outs in the eighth representing the tying run but Rocky Gale caught Noriega trying to steal second, ending the inning.
Alex Castellanos went 1-for-3 with a walk, extending his hitting streak to nine games, a new Chihuahuas team high. Sunday’s sellout crowd was the 19 th in 22 games at Southwest University Park.
