Las Cruces Police look for man who allegedly sexually assaulted young girl

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps identify the man police suspect of sexually assaulting a young girl more than two weeks ago.

According to Las Cruces Police, sometime between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on March 11, a man approached two young children as they played behind their home on the 1900 block of Carlyle Drive.

The man is alleged to have asked the boy and girl to accompany him to the other side of the railroad tracks and into a drainage ditch where he then somehow distracted the 6-year-old boy so he could sexually assault the 4-year-old girl.

Police say the girl was frightened by the incident but did not disclose any physical injuries.

The man is described as short with a medium build and fair complexion. He had short, black hair and a noticeable scar on his face. He also had a bandage or tape on one of his pinky fingers.
