Fort Bliss personnel to gain trauma experience working at UMC
University Medical Center and Fort Bliss have signed an agreement that allows military medical personnel assigned to the 31st Combat Support Hospital at Fort Bliss to work alongside UMC staff in the hospital’s Level I Trauma Center and Intensive Care Units.
UMC officials say this experience will help ensure that military caregivers’ skills remain sharp during those periods when the Combat Support Hospital is not deployed to a war zone or domestic disaster area.
The 31st Combat Support Hospital is a mobile surgical hospital.
UMC officials say military personnel cannot gain the experience they need caring for patients who have sustained serious trauma injuries at William Beaumont Army Medical Hospital because it is a Level III Trauma Center. UMC is the only Level I Trauma Center within 280 miles of El Paso
