FBI launches “tipoff” site asking for the public to share photos and videos of Brown University shooting suspect

UPDATE 9:54PM - The Providence Police and the FBI launch tipoff site and phone number for members of the public to provide any information they have on the shooting.

The FBI is asking for photo and video evidence of the shooting suspect to be submitted at https://tips.fbi.gov/digitalmedia/614ee3a4a073699.

A surveillance video was made public by Providence Police showing a man they believe is the suspect in the shootings.

“It’s of who we believe is the suspect leaving that area walking on Hope Street and taking a right on Waterman. He’s going to be wearing dark clothing. You are not going to be able to see his face,” said Deputy Police Chief Timothy O’Hara of the video.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley briefed the public about the video and the fact there is not a clear shot of the suspect's face, therefore the public's help was needed to help in the investigation. The suspect remains at large.

The mayor also told resident he does not recommend for neighbors to cancel their weekend plans adding he believe it was safe to "go to church in the morning."

“We at this time are not recommending that those events be cancelled. It’s a personal choice whether you want to cancel your holiday party but we do not think it is necessary,” he said, adding that he has received not information that there is an ongoing threat from the suspect at large.

UPDATE: Over 400 law enforcement officers from local, state, FBI, and ATF are currently investigating the mass shooting at the Ivy League research university.

The number of injured has gone up to 9, with six in critical but stable condition according to Rhode Island Hospital where all 9 shooting victims were taken. Two of the patients are in stable condition, while one is listed as critical. Two students are confirmed dead.

The hospital is on lockdown, a sign on the emergency department's entrance states, "Rhode Island Hospital will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available."

The search for the shooter continue he is described as being in their 30s and wearing dark clothing by law enforcement.

The mayor is advising residents in the area of the campus to stay inside. Brown University remains on lockdown.

This is the first school shooting in the city since 2008 according to CNN's school shooting database. The database shows more than 70 school shooting in the country so far this year.

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (KVIA) - The mayor of Rhode Island, Brett Smiley confirms two people died and eight received critical injuries after a shooting at Brown University.

An alert to students and staff was sent out at 4:20 p.m. Eastern Time of an active shooter in the engineering building of the university.

The alert stated : "There's an active shooter near Barus & Holley Engineering. Lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice."

Final exams were underway at the time of the shooting according to Brown University.

The Providence Police Department's Deputy Chief described the suspected shooter as being a male dressed in black. Police do not have anyone in custody and they continue to search for the suspect.

Mayor Smiley briefed the public and emphasized there is a shelter-in-place in effect for the campus. The community to continue to shelter in place.

President Donald Trump said the FBI is on the scene after he was briefed on the shooting.

"What a terrible thing it is, and all we can do right now is pray for the victims and for those that were very badly hurt," said Trump.
