Grandson allegedly beats grandmother over money

A 19-year-old Daniel Guzman, from Las Cruses was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly beating his 59-year-old grandmother in her bedroom.

Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the woman’s home in the 2900 block of Doa Ana Road, where she shares with her grandson.

The woman told investigators that her grandson, Guzman, was arguing with her and demanding that she give him money.

The woman told investigators she went to her bedroom to de-escalate the conflict. Investigators said Guzman followed her, closed the door and locked it behind him. He then allegedly began to hit his grandmother with his fists on her legs and right arm.

Investigators reported, Guzman would not let the woman leave her room and would not let his girlfriend come to the grandmother’s rescue.

Guzman was arrested and charged with one count of battery against a household member and one count of false imprisonment. He is currently being held into the Doa Ana County Detention Centerwith a$5,000 bond.
