Newspaper Tree hosting rent party Thursday night

Newspaper Tree, a non profit online news publication, is asking for the public’s help so staff can continue creating investigative and long form journalism in the borderland.

Thursday night from 6-8 p.m. the organization is hosting a rent party in downtown El Paso.

The digital news and culture publication runs on tax-deductible donations. Publisher E. Anthony Martinez said it takes about $200,000 dollars a year for two people to run Newspaper Tree due to overhead cost, employee salaries, publication expenses and website design.

“We’re hoping that the community comes out. Anybody who wants to hear more about Newspaper Tree, or just wants to enjoy good company, good music, we’d love to have anybody come and join us,” Martinez said.

The event will have live jazz music, free T-shirts, beverages and appetizers while supplies last.
