ABC-7 First Alert: Storm risk and strong winds Tuesday!

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- We are under an ABC-7 First Alert because of storm and flood risk. Strong winds are also expected for today.

The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for El Paso and Las Cruces in Doña Ana County:

• Flood Watch until September 30, 06:00 AM MDT
• Wind Advisory in effect from September 29, 03:00 PM MDT until September 30, 12:00 AM MDT

We woke this morning to some light rainfall in portions of the Borderland. Las Cruces is expected to see that stronger impact first with storm chances climbing midmorning. El Paso storm risk climbs early afternoon but throughout the region expected that on and off risk for at least light rainfall all morning. Expect winds to pick up this afternoon.

We are experiencing a surge in moisture in our region because of Hurricane Polo. This is not a direct impact but indirect as we encounter the remnants from Polo leading to flood risk and strong winds.

The moisture will continue to push out of our region leading to weaker rain chances for your Wednesday!
