Woman used radio to monitor security while allegedly stealing merchandise, Las Cruces PD says
Las Cruces Police arrested a Truth or Consequences woman they accuse of burglarizing a Walmart store and using a radio receiver to monitor store security.
Sharon Moody, 42, of the 100 block of north Birch in T. or C., has been charged with one count each of non-residential burglary and possession of burglary tools.
On the afternoon of July 6, Las Cruces Police were sent to the Walmart store at 3331 Rinconada on a report of a shoplifting in progress.
Police say that an employee in the store’s loss prevention office was monitoring a woman, later identified as Moody, as she allegedly used a utility knife and razor blades to cut open packaging on several pieces of electronic merchandise.
Moody then allegedly placed the merchandise – valued at $544.65 – in black backpacks inside her cart before leaving the store.
A Las Cruces Police officer greeted Moody outside of the store after she left without paying, police said.
The officer found the merchandise inside the backpacks and found out that Moody was wearing an earpiece and radio receiver that monitored store security transmissions.
Police say that Moody had been arrested March 7, 2014, for shoplifting at another local Walmart store. On March 7 she was served with a trespass card that forbid her from entering any Walmart store.
Following Sunday’s arrest, Moody was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
