EPISD associate superintendent resigns ‘rather than engage in further discussion of her employment’
The El Paso Independent School District Associate Superintendent of Elementary Division announced her resignation to retire effective Jan. 25, 2013.
Maria A. Flores has tendered her resignation with the El Paso Independent School District in order to retire from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. Ms. Flores has been serving as the Associate Superintendent for Elementary Schools Division since 2009. Her resignation is effective Jan. 25, 2013.
“Ms. Flores elected to resign to retire rather than engage in further discussion of her employment. Prior to her acceptance of this resignation, she was informed in writing that a report and notice will be forwarded to State Board for Educator Certification,” said Rene de Santos, EPISD communications specialist.
Flores was promoted in August 2009 to Associate Superintendent of Elementary Schools Division from a Director in the Priority Schools Division. As of 2011 she earned about $115,000 a year.
Flores began her career in EPISD in 1985 as a teacher at White Elementary School. She also taught at Guillen Middle School. She has been an assistant principal at Alamo and Alta Vista elementary schools, as well as principal of Hart Elementary School. She was also an ESL instructor at Community College for five years.
Flores has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Master of Arts Degree in Education from New Mexico State University. She also received her administrative certification from UTEP.
