Man involved in July 12 Dona Ana County SWAT situation allegedly bit police dog, tried to take El Paso cop’s weapon in 2013
ABC-7 has obtained the criminal complaint against a man involved in a SWAT situation in Dona Ana County, New Mexico.
The document shows the incident ended with the man allegedly biting a police dog.
And this isn’t Davalous Brown’s first run-in with the law.
For this investigation, 21-year-old Brown is charged with battery against an officer and resisting or evading an officer.
According to the criminal complaint, a Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputy was serving a warrant to Brown at a house on Melody Lane.
The deputy found Brown in the shower and told him he was under arrest.
The deputy said Brown seemed to be cooperating but then started a struggle with the deputy, grabbed his Taser, and pointed it at the deputy.
After another struggle, Brown took off.
Officers shot at Brown, hitting him in the leg, when he tried going back into the home on Melody.
The complaint states that when the SWAT team got inside the house Brown began fighting with a police service dog and bit the dog’s face.
The ABC-7 I Team confirmed that this is the same Davalous Brown who was arrested in El Paso, Texas in January 2013 during a traffic stop.
El Paso Police said Brown tried to take the officer’s weapon during that incident.
And El Paso jail records show Brown was back in custody June 16 of this year in relation to his January 2013 arrest.
Brown was released from El Paso County Jail June 27 – two weeks before he was involved in the SWAT situation in Dona Ana County.
