ABC-7 joins Bodega Loya to celebrate 5 years of community, fresh produce

Bodega Loya is a community staple for fresh and local produce in Socorro, and now they're celebrating their 5th year anniversary.

ABC-7's Nicole Ardila joins owners Ralph and Marty Loya, who come from generations of family farmers to talk about the history and work behind Bodega Loya.

They both believe in contributing to a healthy food initiative in their community which they say is now becoming rare.

There, they sell fruits and vegetables that they grow, as well as eggs and dairy products locally sourced from other farmers.

Marty grew up on the 100-year-old farm where Bodega Loya now sits, and it is the only centennial farm in El Paso County.

The buildings date back from the 1890s, and Ralph created the bodega by retrofitting an original adobe shed and tool room.

Around Bodega Loya, they have artisan vendors, and their very own shop "Cafecito," selling coffee and giving space to local artists to sell their work.

They're inviting the community to a spring book fair with several authors signing, coffee and more, on Saturday, April 4 at 10257 Socorro Rd.
