3-year-old found alone at Washington Park March 28 now in Juarez with mom

April 1, 2014 Update: An ICE Homeland Security Investigations official tells ABC-7 that they assisted in reuniting 3-year-old Lionel with his mother at a port of entry on Saturday.

The boy’s mother did not have the proper documentation to allow her into the U.S. So she and the boy were allowed to go back to Juarez, Mexico.

Leonel was found by a passerby at Washington Park by himself on March 28, and turned over to police.

March 28, 2014 Story: El Paso Police are asking for the public’s help in locating found child’s parents.

At about 10:05 a.m. Friday, March 28, a patrol officer was dispatched to Washington Park regarding a found child.

A passerby saw the 3-year-old child alone in the park and stopped to check on him.

The passerby called police and investigators have not been able to find the child’s family.

The Spanish speaking child is described as a male, approximately 3-years old with a possible first name of Lionel, and wearing a yellow “Diego” shirt and blue jeans.

Child Protective Services will take custody of the child pending the location of family.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 832-4400.
