EPISD disputes KVIA’s story on second grader that wandered away from school
The El Paso Independent School District took exception to ABC-7’s story Thursday night about a second grader who wandered away from Lundy Elementary School.
Friday afternoon, the district issued a news release saying the school has reviewed existing safety procedures, instituted new ones like head counts and a buddy system for bathroom and water breaks – and alleging ABC-7 got it wrong.
The district statement says, “KVIA reported based on third hand accounts of the situation, and misrepresented the facts, despite being told by central office repeatedly that the parent had met with both the principal and the assistant principal.”

ABC-7 reporter Pilar Arias reported Thursday night that she did speak personally to the mother of the child, who told her the principal was unavailable.
Arias further maintains that the first time the district ever claimed the principal and assistant principal spoke with the mother was more than 12 hours after the story aired.
If additional relevant facts come to light, ABC-7 will share them with you.
