El Paso CVB says Jehovah’s Witness convention was a hit
El Paso played host to the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses (CCJW) District Convention, August 16-18, 2013. The annual convention, which welcomed attendees from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and as far away from California, will return to El Paso four times in the next five years.
Staged in the El Paso Convention Center over a three day period, CCJW welcomed nearly 13,500 people and yielded approximately 1,770 room nights at area hotels. “Our Convention Development Department has worked hard to cultivate a relationship with CCJW and we’re glad that their first event with us was a tremendous success,” said Bill Blaziek, General Manager of the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We look forward to hosting them again and anticipate attendance numbers and impact figures to grow in subsequent years.”
“I think the convention turned out great and we’re excited to return to El Paso in 2015,” added Dan Martin, Regional Contract Manager for CCJW. “The leadership and staff of the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau jumped through hoops to make this happen. El Paso is lucky to have such a great team.”
CCJW will convene in El Paso for one weekend each August, from 2015 through 2018, resulting in as many as 5,000 attendees per event. According to the organization, an estimated $1.4 million economic impact per year for a total of $7 million over the course of the five-year agreement is expected.
There is also potential for circuit conventions throughout the year that will last one or two days. These events typically occur five times a year and can attract up to 6,000 more members each year.
