RUIDOSO, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Organizers from New Mexico Pack Burros held the Sierra Blanca Burro Bonanza at the Village of Ruidoso Saturday; where burros, donkeys in Spanish, raced alongside their human partners and covered over 6 miles in two courses.

Organizers say that the Sierra Blanca Burro Bonanza is part of the Strike It Rich Burro Race Series, connecting historic New Mexico communities and celebrating the past of pack burros while building a community-driven future for outdoor recreation in New Mexico.

Over 80 individuals along with their four-legged companions, faced a short course around 3 miles long and a long course between 6 and 9 miles long.

Organizers say that racers faced thin air, changing weather, and demanding trails, which tested both humans and burros, highlighting the effort and teamwork that is involved in burro racing.

The next pack burro race will be held in Silver City, New Mexico and for more information on New Mexico Pack Burros, click here.
