Good Vibes Only: El Pasoan stars in new Girl Scouts documentary

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)—Earlier this August, "Cookie Queens" was released in cinemas across the United States. It features a Girl Scout from El Paso and her whirlwind journey of selling the popular treats across town!

The documentary is a celebration of girlhood and shows the complexities of Girl Scout cookie season as it follows four girls and their families. Girl Scouts sell about 250 million boxes of cookies every year, totaling about 800 million dollars.

10-year-old Shannon Elizabeth is one of the girls featured in the piece! She’s an energetic only child who is committed to selling a large amount of cookies to win a free Girl Scouts summer camp. She’s also a karate enthusiast who is able to show off her skills on the big screen!

The El Pasoan became a Girl Scout five years ago. She said it has transformed her and made her courageous!

“It taught me how to try new things and push myself out of my comfort zone little by little,” Shannon Elizabeth said.

Her mother, Amanda Stevens, said the family got involved with the film after hearing about a nationwide casting call. Shannon Elizabeth would be selected, and film crews would follow the family’s everyday life for several months.

The local Girl Scout said it took some time to understand the filming process!

“It was really exciting. I thought it was fun and games at first."

The film shows Shannon Elizabeth’s commitment to selling every last cookie!

“One of the things she's about is she hustles. She works. I mean, nothing is given to her. Nothing is, you know, handed to her. Every single box of cookies that she sells, she's out there, and she's knocking on door to door,” her mother said.

Last week, ABC-7 crews witnessed Shannon Elizabeth’s generosity as she dropped off cookies at an El Paso fire station.

“To have the opportunity to shine. And I say that in the best way, as far as having an El Paso girl shine as having been, she's a great advocate for the things she's believing in," said Stevens when asked about her daughter being showcased in the film.

The documentary was executive produced by Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Shannon Elizabeth was able to meet both of them. She was pleasantly surprised to learn she and the Prince share a favorite cookie!

After seeing the film, she said she gives the film five stars!

“I enjoyed all of the film, if I'm honest. So, like, if I'd had to pick a favorite part, it was from start to end. That would be my favorite part."

Film officials said there isn't a digital, at-home release date just yet, and it may be several weeks before they announce it.
