Fireworks cleanup: Residents say the the trash is worth the cash

This fourth of July, Chapparal NM was one of the only places near El Paso County that allowed fireworks this year.

Vendors started cleaning early Friday morning and were finished in a couple of hours — not a huge sacrifice, considering each stand’s successful sales.

“It’s Christmas in July, man,” said vendorMathis Zamora.

Zamora said he made multiple $100, $200 and $300 sales. With pockets full of profit, picking up some left over parcels is the last of his concerns.

“It is what it is,” Zamora said. “Some people pick up after themselves, some people don’t.”

Cleaning up is something residents in Montana Vista don’t have to worry about this year. And they’re not happy about it.

“It was cleaners but it wasn’t the fourth of July without fireworks<" said one resident. "Basically it sucked."
