FSU shooter former attorney in Las Cruces
A Florida gunman opened fire on the Florida State University campus Thursday, injuresd three people and was shot dead. The gunman has since been identified as Myron May-a former attorney who lived and worked in Las Cruces.
May worked at the District Attorney’s office as an assistant trial attorney beginning in January 2014 and resigned after nine months on October 6th.
District Attorney Mark D’Antonio said May wrote a letter of resignation and did not offer a reason why. D’Antonio added May was well-liked and had a good work ethic.
D’Antonio also added he nor anyone in the department thought May was suffering from any mental health issues.
A police report that was filed in early September-only a month before May resigned from his position at the District Attorney’s office. May apparently called police because he thought he was being watched and he could hear voices coming from the walls of his apartment.
On September 7th, May told police he was sure there was a camera somewhere in the walls of his apartment, and that he could hear voices coming through the walls.
In one instance, May said he took a bath, came out and put lotion on.
That’s when he told the officer he heard voices saying, “Did you see that, he never puts any lotion on.”
The police officer then asked may whether he knew of anyone that would be watching him. May said he didn’t.
When the officer said nothing could be done, May said he was going to hire a private investigator to look into the matter. Abc-7 spoke to a neighbor of May’s who lived in the same apartment complex and he says was shocked when he learned the news.

“Knowing that he used to live here, is really scary. I mean, he could have done that to one of us and to her and I was his next-door neighbor and it pretty scary when i heard he was the shooter of that incident,” David Baca said.
It appears things took a turn for the worse in October. May’s ex-girlfriend filed a report against him for harassment. In it, she told police she believed he developed a mental disorder before he left Las Cruces and she was concerned about his mental state. She believed his condition was getting worse.
On October 7th, May’s ex-girlfriend told police May was suffering from a mental health disorder.
She said he was diagnosed with ADHD and was using medication to overcome it.
In the report, she states May thought police were after him, and that they had placed cameras in his car.
The night the report was filed, May went to her place and handed her a piece of his car.
He asked her to keep it because he said it was a camera that police put in his car.
She told police her and May dated for a year and a half and broke up two weeks earlier.
May’s apartment neighbors told Abc-7 they became suspicious of him after a broken window in an apartment next door.
“I was just more aware of my safety and my girlfriend’s safety, it’s a pretty nice neighborhood and apartment complex. It just worried me at first after he moved out, I figured I was safe after that,” David Baca said.
May’s girlfriend added in the police report that May had been taken to the Mesilla Valley Hospital for a mental health evaluation a few weeks earlier. She also added he had not made any suicidal or homicidal threats at that point.
