Flames errupt in west El Paso home

The El Paso Fire Department responded to a house fire in west El Paso just after midnight Thursday.

Residents of the home on the 1000 block of Calle Parque noticed the fire from their wood-burning chimney spread to the roof area. They immediately called 911.

Crews arrived to heavy smoke billowing out of the attic and roof.

The three residents inside had already evacuated the home. Fire officials said a large portion of the home was damaged by the fire and smoke.

A firefighter was injured by falling debris. A spokesman could not confirm the firefighter’s condition.

The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
