EPISD reinstates Irvin High School principal
Students and administrators at Irvin High School were outraged after their principal was reassigned.
Wednesday, El Paso Independent School District officials announced they’ve reinstated him.
Laron Sharp served as principal since February of 2013. It was more than a week ago when the district decided to reassign Sharp to Andress High School.
Students and administrators were very vocal about their disagreement with that decision. They protested and even wrote letters to the district.
Officials with EPISD would not elaborate on why Sharp was reassigned in the first place. They tell Abc-7 it was due to personnel matters.
Sharp was reassigned as Assistant Principal at Andress High School. Wednesday, he was back in his office at Irvin and his colleagues were more than excited about his return.
“I want to commend my district, of course EPISD we’ve been through a lot together over the last several years and this is just another step in the right direction. To take a look at what’s going on and to really make change here in the northeast,” Jennifer DeGraaf, Assistant Principal at Irvin High School, said.
EPISD officials deny this had anything to do with protests last week. They tell Abc-7 they have made suggestions to Sharp and they will continue to monitor Irvin High School.
Officials also tell Abc-7, as far as Andress High School is concerned, Sharp served there as an assistant principal-they say the school will carry on as is. They are not looking to replace Sharp as he was only supplemental to their staff.
