Driver arrested after high-speed chase and crash in Mesilla

Mesilla Marshals Office

MESILLA, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The Mesilla Marshals Office says Andrew Castro-Figueroa was arrested and faces charges after leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Mesilla that happened on September 18th, 2026, after 11 pm.

According to the Marshals Office, a 2023 red F-150 truck was seen by a Mesilla Deputy accelerating from the Mesilla Town Plaza. The vehicle made a right turn from Calle De Parian southbound on Avenida De Mesilla at a high rate of speed, approaching Calle De Sur while the Mesilla Deputy was chasing the vehicle.

Police say the driver made a U-turn and continued north on Avenida De Mesilla at a high rate of speed and did not stop for the deputy.

The Marshal's Office says the red F-150's driving actions caused debris, dirt, and dust to be thrown into the air, making visibility difficult. The truck crashed, emitted sparks, and went airborne momentarily. The truck continued north on Avenida de Mesilla and turned west on Calle de Norte, where officials say it came to a stop.

The driver was identified as Andrew Castro-Figueroa and was placed under arrest for Resisting, Evading, and Obstructing and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. The Marshal's Office says Castro-Figueroa admitted to seeing the deputy following and made the decision not to stop.

Officials say Castro-Figueroa consented to submitting to a breath test, and results were .14 and he was booked at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
