Crash in central Las Cruces leaves one man dead

A man has died following a crash in central Las Cruces.

It happened at about 6 p.m. Wednesday night on the 700 block of Spruce.

Police said the crash involved a motorcycle and a car.

Investigators told ABC-7 the man who was killed was the driver of the motorcycle. Police did not release his name, but they did say he was 21 years old.

That motorcyclist reportedly drove into oncoming traffic to get around an LCPD unit that was waiting to make a turn.

Police said he crashed head-on into a car that was coming in the opposite direction.

The motorcycle exploded following the impact. Its driver died at the scene.

The driver of the car that collided with the motorcycle was not injured.
