Driver in deadly crash sentenced to probation, community service

A Fort Bliss who crashed his truck, killing one of his passengers was sentenced to probation.

Jacob McGuire, 23, lost control of his truck and flipped over a median in August of 2013. One of his passengers, 20-year-old Leeza Lugo, died at the scene. Three other passengers were hurt.

Police say McGuire admitted to having more than one drink that night. He was initially charged with intoxicated manslaughter, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

McGuire to was sentenced to 10-years’ probation, 200 hours of community service and was ordered to pay a $500 fine.
