TEA conservatorship ends for SISD

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - Wednesday, the Texas Education Agency ended its conservatorship of Socorro ISD.

The district was under state oversight for two years.

The TEA announced that Socorro ISD successfully addressed financial governance and academic issues.

Today, SISD Superintendent James Vasquez thanked the community for its support and said TEA officials praised the district's improvements and restored stability.

"Yesterday morning I received a phone call from the deputy commissioner of the Texas Education Agency with the news that we had successfully met the requirements to end the conservatorship in Socorro ISD", said Vasquez.

The superintendent added that with stronger leadership, balanced budgets, and higher academic performance, the district now looks ahead to continued progress and transparency.
