Drivers complain about Montwood construction traffic

The Montwood construction project is moving forward. The city is adding new roads, sidewalks, gutters, and water systems from Montwood to Zanzibar, meaning more traffic.

The Montwood construction project started this January, and will last for the next 22 months. Roadwork is making a mess, but could eventually prevent periodic flooding near Eastwood High that slows down traffic, creates pot holes, and threatens nearby homes.

“It’s really bad for us in this area, but when they finish it will be great,” said one driver on McRae.

Drivers fighting off road rage tell me they city could have planned construction better.

“It’s backing up traffic it’s causing accidents,” a driver told ABC-7. “I have to go somewhere and it’s causing me to be late. We’re looking at 20 minutes sometimes sitting here.”

But the city says its doing just that by only working on one street at a time. They’ll have McRae on the south side of Eastside High complete with a drainage system in two months, but expect the north side to take much longer. ‘

Waking up early or getting to places a little late will have to become the norm between Montwood and Zanzibar until 2015 when construction is complete.
