Montwood High students have a rough first day of school

Hundreds of Montwood High students saw their schedules for the 2013-2014 school year and freaked out. Certain classes they needed for graduation weren’t there.

“It frustrates me, but what am I going to do? I’m just a student,” said Carlos Cuellar .

Cuellar feels the school’s error comes out of negligence.

“Instead of them giving them classes they really need, why would just place them anywhere?” Cuellar said.

But the Socorro Independent School District said it’s the students negligence that got them in this situation. Some students waited to register on the first day of school and
showed up late.

Assistant Superintendent Pat O’Neill said when student wait too late to register, they’re dropped from the system.

“So what this means is you have to go back into the system and create schedules for it took a little time,” O’Neill said.

Out of 2800 students, only 400 had wrong schedules. And as of Friday all but 60 schedules were fixed. O’Neill says by Monday, the issue will be completely solved. But the question remains: will students graduation date be affected?

“Absolutely not,” said O’Neill.
