El Paso Police charge 2 brothers with criminal attempted murder

El Paso Police have charged two men with criminal attempted murder after they were allegedly involved in an armed robbery and fired multiple shots at the victim.

The El Paso Police Department’s Gang Investigations Unit learned that early morning on Feb. 1, 2015 the 22-year-old male victim was approached by two men as he exited his vehicle in the 10600 block of Obsidian.

One of the subjects, identified as 21-year-old Joshua Mendoza, allegedly grabbed the victim and demanded money from him.

When the victim told the subjects he didn’t have anything on him, Joshua Mendoza allegedly told his 19-year-old brother Jacob Mendoza to shoot the victim.

The victim struggled with Joshua Mendoza and was able to get back into his vehicle and drive away. The victim drove away and turned around to try and get a better look at the men.

Police say one of the men then opened fire on the victim’s vehicle, striking it several times.

The victim was not hit by a bullet but did fear for his life, police said.

Investigators were able to identify Joshua Mendoza and Jacob Mendoza as the subjects in this case.

They have been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on the charge of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity – Criminal Attempted Murder. Their bonds were set at:

Joshua Mendoza: $500,000.00

Jacob Mendoza: $150,000.00
